Suspension types: The different methods on how springs attach to the frame. The two types are In Frame and Offset Suspension

Suspension types: in frame & offset

In frame (punched/drilled holes)
Spring offset (springs with longer hooks used with punched/drilled frames)
Frame offset (frames with corrugated rods or something setting the spring centered with the frame and offset from the frame)

Hook Damage
This is more common in trampolines with punched or drilled frams for spring attachment. Springs that hook directly into the frame can have their hooks bent out if the springs are depressed too far. This is due to the bottoming out of the coil colliding with the frame where the deflection warps the hook and bends it out of shape. This usually happens when somebody lands really hard near the edge of the mat. Only a few springs are taking on almost the entire weight of the person when jumping too close to the springs. There are different methods to prevent this:

1. Tapered ends which have a higher IT strength so they don't expand all the way and bottom out but this doesn't stop the hook from being damaged when they attach directly into the frame cuz when the spring coils collide into the tube part of the frame frame, all the tension in is the hook.

2. Offset Suspension:  This is when the springs are off the frame so their is not any collissions between the spring coils and tube frame which messes up the hook. The way many companies have learned to stop this problem is to stop the coils early and have a super long hook so they can still use the punched and drilled hole frames. But this gives a different bounce as their are less coils and longer hook. Some of the higher end frames have corrogated rod systems where their is more medal welded into the frame to attach the springs. This adds more weight to the frame making it feel more rooted to the ground when I jump.
